Cleaning up the beaches of Dumfries and Galloway and beyond

Home » About

‘To leave the world a better place than you found it, sometimes you have to pick up other people’s trash.’

DG Eco Warriors was set up by Lottie, Fiona and Laura in early 2018 after having found similar interests in cleaning up Dumfries and Galloway and making a difference, however large or small, whilst working with the community.

The aims of this group is to:

  • Raise awareness of plastic pollution/related environmental issues
  • Share any tips of how to become more sustainable
  • Share litter picking and other related environmental events
  • Set up beach cleans around Dumfries and Galloway

Along with arranging litter picks, we are trying to empower others to use their own initiative and do the same in other areas of D+G. There are a lot of beaches and coves around our coastline and some that we are not familiar with, hence the need for help in arranging such cleans. We are also branching out to cover inland areas too, both urban and rural.

Although a lot of our picks will be in and around Dumfries, where the group is based, we will endeavour to assist and support when and where we can for other cleans but ask for your help as active members of our community group.

Setting up your own clean

  1. Simply call the council: 03033333000 for equipment and arrange for them to pick up filled bags at a set location.
  2. Decide on a date and time (If doing a beach clean, check that it ties in with a low(ish) tide) and risk assess.
  3. Create an event and share it on the D&G Eco Warriors Facebook Group so others can attend and also share the event as much as possible.

Admins are always willing to help out and will try to come along to any events we can.
